To Be Fair…

Ok so this was not where I went Forgive me, I’m new at this blogging thing, and I wish I took more pictures of our day out but I’ll have to make do and learn from my mistakes…

So on Friday I went to the funfair in Blackheath. With my daughter Kiki (10) and my son EJ (9 months), it was my sister who gave me the idea, she was taking her children Cici (4) – and her son CJ (22 Months). I know, I know, Kiki, Cici, Ej and CJ- you cant make this stuff up but these are their actual nicknames honest… anyway I was planning to tidy the whole house, but when she called with this fun activity idea it was a tough choice but how could I say no.

The fair was smaller than I had expected. It was obviously aimed at children age 10 and under. So it was perfect for the little ones, although my daughter still enjoyed herself. It had been a damp week, and because of this the ground was soft, muddy, and sludgy. The wheels on the pushchairs were destroyed, along with the scooter my daughter wisely decided to bring along. On top of that, I was wearing a pair of flat glitter pumps, the worst footwear choice ever in hind sight. I was slipping all over the place in the end I had to kind of waddle-walk to make sure I didn’t ruin my shoes too much.

The girls went on a ferris wheel 1st, it was large, as they were going up Cici screams out to me. “Aunty I’m scared I want to get off”… too late for that now. All in all the kids enjoyed themselves, even EJ got a piece of the action on a Thomas Tank engine train. His first ever ride with his big sis. We got candy floss and doughnuts (the best bit for me) and after an hour we were ready to leave… partially due to cold weather and mud.

We then ate out at the Pizza Express in Blackheath village. The food was good. The staff were very welcoming especially since we both had bulky muddy pushchairs, and the restaurant was pretty much full, they made room for us and our prams, with smiles on their faces.

I had a Romana ‘Pollo ad Astra’ which I cut into 4 and folded like a calzone because it was so large. But by the time I got to the second half the pizza was cold. The kids had Dough balls including EJ who loved it, he also had some of the veggies left by Kiki & CiCi. He really loved the cucumber and the dough balls. CJ didn’t have his own meal he just shared some of his sister’s food. They had brownie and sorbet for dessert. Both the girls left half a pizza each so my sister planned to take it home, but ended up leaving it there.

My sister said she hadn’t eaten out with them for a while because she can deal with the fussing, the kids got up a few times but were not bad, but if you were on your own it would be hard I guess.

All in all a fun day out with the kids- but the token prices for the fair were 6 for £5 12 for £10 or 24 for £20. With each ride costing 2-3 tokens each per rider, babies and all it adds up quickly.

I would go to that one again, but I would suggest if it has been raining at all in the days before you go…

don’t be like me – make sure you wear appropriate footwear.
